Observing students in the field allows for aspiring educators to see first hand the progression of development for adolescents. In general seeing the cognitive as well as social development of students benefits us so we can form ideas on how we will mange a classroom in the future. In my area of speciality history, I am interested in observing how different age groups appreciate the subject. If the younger students, or older appreciate it more. My prediction is the older the students the more they appreciate the study, at least that was the case for me. Older high school students may realize how important history is as it literally shape the way everything is today. Younger students may not be at the cognitive level to realize that yet.
